Foundation The northeast management of GSI founded in 1989. This Office started its activity with seven staffs and during the fist year the number of staffs increased to nine members. New staffs have been employed in the last decade and now twenty four Msc and Bsc staffs and one technician are busy here. Moreover four staffs are doing official work and eleven staffs are doing services. The northeast management of GSI is one of the five managements, founded in some provinces to do regional geology, which follow general aims of GSI. Ten years activities The northeast management of GSI has passed ups and downs but activities show a positive resultant. Although future activities of the northeast management of GSI are affected by traditional methods, education and training of staffs, we believe that management and programming will be the most important factors in progress. We encourage staffs to do share works as much as they can, this management believe ideas of every staff and his/her role in this management will result in more success and progress. Aims Economical development in every country depends on some basic foundation. Geology is one of the basic sciences, which is applicable in water resources, foundation of roads and tunnels, etc. Consequently, to centralize activities in geology and mine exploration, GSI was founded in 1959 and started its work in 1962, which was also supported by UN. It was a hard task to achieve international standard in GSI, but GSI tried to employ more Iranian geologists. It is worth reminding that Iranian geologists have done all geological work in GSI since 1976. The first activity in GSI was focused on geological maps and geological reports because geological maps are basic and necessary for all other geological activities.In parallel activities such as exploring mineral resources, water resources, and engineering, geological studies and laboratory researches started .As GSI is doing a lot, articles of GSI amended and the name of GSI changed to ? In addition to the central office in Tehran, there are five managements including northwest (Tabriz branch), southwest (Ahvaz branch), northeast (Mashed branch), southeast (Kerman branch) and south (Shiraz branch).
