Abstract :
Water seepage from dam foundation is one of the most important problems in dam projects. Today, injection is considered as an effective solution to prevent seepage and as an appropriate for preserving dam stability. Estimation of injection or evaluation of cement take in dam base for designing waterproof curtain is not easily achieved due to complexity of the structures. Based on this, Tentative injection is carried out in preliminary studies to determine parameters involving in designing waterproof curtain. Some features of the structure related to design of waterproof curtain can be determined through evaluation and controlling the experimental injection results. In the present paper, groutability of Graty dam is investigates. This dam is a earth fill dam with clay core, located over Kalvelayat river, upstream of Graty village in Espharaien, North Khorasan. In study stage, 17 mechanical borehole overall equal to 511/3 meters in two rock and alluvium regions and 16 hand – made wells overall reaching 683 meters were drilled in this project. Also, tentative injection was done to identify dam groutability. Result obtained from tentative injection carried out in right abutment indicate dam groutability, so that by accomplishing waterproof curtain operation, leakage of impermissible water can be prevented.
