Abstract :
Neyzar Formation ( Lower Maastrichtian ) has exposoure in Kopet- Dagh basin in the east and north east of Iran .The Lower boundery of Neyzar Formation with Abtalkh Formation is gradual and the upper boundary with Kalat Formation) recognized by palesol bed. Petrographic studies of Neyzar Formation showed that this formation has been formed from mixed siliciclastic and carbonate rocks . Based on particles type and frequency of , 4 siliciclastic and 5 carbonate facies association (include 9 facies ) have been identified. Facies analysis of carbonate sediments in the west of show that they have been deposited in 5 facies belts including restricted lagoon, lagoonal barriers semi-restricted lagoons , barrier and open marine , whereas siliciclastic sediments in the east have been deposited in barrier island and back barrier lagoon. Lateral facies changes from type section in the east to the Khest section ( westernmost section of the study area ) show that sedimentary environment change from east to the west and a favourable condition was available for deposition of carbonate sediments as the result of siliciclastic sediments in flux to the basin.
