Segmentation from south of Birjand fault, east of Iran

Abstract :

There is a fault in south of Birjand (East Iran), in border of Bagheran moantain and Birjand flat, its called South Birjand Fault. Based on the studies done in this research, South Birjand fault was segmented into 5 segment due to geometrical discontinuities. Distinct differences of fractal dimension in the fault segment is an indication of geometrical change in the fault zone. Numbers gained from fractal analysis of Koh-e Rich, Dehno, Amirabad-e Sheibani, Aliabad, Noferest and bijar segments, were 1/182,1/361,1/298,1/209,1/392 and 1/385 respectively. The tow fractal dimension of mount Rich shows that the fault system surface range is limited and there are signs of increase in strain and generally more development in the fault system. The greater fractal dimension in Noferest segment is due to expansion in surface fault range, bending reduction and less development.
