Abstract :
Fractal analysis helps describing complex fault pattern. The box-counting method is used to determine the fractal dimensions of this fault system. The seismotectonic behavior of fault can be related to the irregularity of fault geometry and condition of the seismogenic sources. The South Birjand fault system in the East Iran. Consists of 6 fault segment with fractal dimension value (D) ranging from 0/317 to 1/482 and segments Koh-e Rich, Dehno, Amirabad Sheibani, Aliabad, Noferest and Bijar segments, The fractal dimension 1/182, 1/361, 1/298, 1/209, 1/392 and 1/385, respectively, and for South Birjand zone 1/096 in 1:100000 scale map.
