Abstract :
The study area is situated between the NE-SW-trending Cheshmeh nay and Siah kuh fault zones within the left-lateral Shahrud fault system. The estimated NNE direction of compression is oblique to the trend of study area, creating a transpression regime. Due to this kinematics, Cheshmeh nay and Siah kuh fault zones have evidence of recent left-lateral motions and numerous faults formed antithetic and synthetic to the these fault zones. These faults have oblique slips whose strike-slip components change depending on the angle they make to the Cheshmeh nay and Siah kuh fault zones. Faults parallel or at low angle to the Cheshmeh nay and Siah kuh fault zones have left-lateral component. On the faults at high angle (60-75) to these fault zones, right-lateral movement takes place. It is likely that the faults gradually rotate clockwisely and attain lower angle to the border of the study area.
