Abstract :

As ostracoda have great value and importance from the viewpoint of ecology, paleoecology and biostratigraphy, this study focuses on the study of ostracoda in type section of the Ab-Talkh Formation occurring in the Kopet-Dagh Basin, NE Iran. The ostracode faunas characterize the different parts of a platform as indicated by the mixture of inner to middle neritic genera Xestoleberis, Haplocytheridea, Cytherelloidea and of outer neritic ones Trachyleberidea. The dominance of Bairdiidae together with the genus Brachycythere supports this interpretation. On the basis of stratigraphical ranges of index species, the upper Coniacian to Maastrichtian ages were proposed for sedimentation of the Formation.
