Abstract :
Abtalkh Formation is one of the Koppeh Dagh sedimentary basin units of upper cretaceous that is studied in the Padeha Village Section because of the importance of Ostracods in determining sedimentary environments and defining age as well . One should go from top of Mozdooran Defile (located in the Mashhad-Sarakhs Road) almost 25km through the earth road which is branched out toward east to reach the Padeha Village and then it should go almost 2km toward east from the Village to reach the Rakhshani well (aimed section ) .
The lithology of the above mentioned Formation includes marl and bluish gray sheles . 50 samples were collected for the studying of Abtalkh Formation on the basis of Ostracods and 7 genus and 22 species were recognized and taken photo graphed by means of Electronic Microscope . Abtalkh Formation age in Padeha section is considered upper Santonian – lower Maastrichtian on the basis of recognized Ostracods . Existance of species which belong to the genus Xestoleberis and Cytherelloidea indicates the shallow and warm sedimentary basin in the mentioned section .
