Study of regional tectonic activity from Jolgeh aquifire

Abstract :
Jolgeh fertile plain with an area of about 560 square kilometers is situated on the east of Torbat-e-Heydarieh city and it lies in a semi-arid area. From the geological point of view the outcrops of the area consist of Mesozoic and Tertiary facies but Paleozoic facies is not widespread. Quaternary sediments with a thickness of about 200 meters are located with unconformity on the bedrock, and ground water reservoir is located in the quaternary deposits. A Cretaceous orbitolina limestone facies that is densely jointed because of tectonic activities plays an important role in recharging of the ground water reservoir.
?Existence of faults, unconformities, foldings and the absence of stratigraphy, ophiolites and ophiolitic melange all reflect the tectanic activities in Upper Cretaceous age. The main effect of this activity is an east-west direction fault in the northern part of the plain. This fault has uplifted the southern part of the plain and brings down the northern part of the fault. As a result of this faulting the alluvium thickness in both sides of the fault is different. This article deals with the effect of tectonic activities in this area and the difference between well pumping rates in the northern and southern parts of the fault will be discussed.
