Publishing Year : 1381

Abstract :

Ceratolithaceae is one of the most important nannofossils for age determination of mio-pliocene deposits. By this means, a part of relatively thick sequence of Noegene deposits ,uppermost of sandstone - marl member, were selected at Arsang mountain (East of Bardaskan, 10 km away).
In this study 3 species of Amaurolithus and 2 species of Ceratolithus were identified and based on the fossil assemblage and the first occurense of Ceratolithus acutus the interval NN12 Martini standard Zonation (1971) that correspond to the upper part of Messinian stage(U.Miocene) and the lower part of Zanclean stage (L.Pliocene) is suggested for the uppermost of the sandstone – marl  member.
