Abstract :
Bedrock samples were examined form a region in North of Asad Abad (Torbute-Hydrarieh) and mashad area in order to understand the factors responsible for elevalted Cr6+ concentrations in the ground water. Although in the region, the Cr is predominantly form natural sources, the precise mneralogy of the Cr6t bearing phases was unknown.
Cr- bearing samples were examinded in detail using XRD, XRF SEM and elemental mapping as well as DSC and TGA for ferrous sapanite. The rapid dissolution of the Cr bearing phases, may be an important factor in the elevated Cr6+ concentrations in the ground water of Abdarou (Asad Abad) region. This study showed that a mixture of ferrous saponite, Iron oxides and jarosite as a barrier well has the capability of adsorbing and rednicng hexavalent chromium.
