Abstract :
In south of Birjand area, there are two kinds the flysch sediments of Upper Cretaceous and Paleocen. These flysch sediments are separated by ultramafic rocks and the altered rocks related to them. In this research for the purpose of lithostratigraphic studies of the ophiolite flysch assemblage of south of Birjand two stratigraphic sections measured from the flysch sediments in about 7 Km southwest of Birjand. In this area in addition to flysch sediment types, Upper Cretaceous and Paleocen ultramafic rocks are exposed and are affected by thrust faults. Lithostratigraphy analysis of flysch deposits along with other rock types in Chahkand area is show that tectonic events in this area, have broken as rock units are mostly faulted. Most of existed sedimentary rocks are sandstone, shale and siltstone. Igneous rocks consist of ultramafic rocks such as pridotites and mafics rocks such as metamorphized spilites. Among the altered rocks related to pridotits can refer to serpentinites and listvenitiezed ultramafics. Most of the studied metamorphic rocks consist of low - grade metamorphized sedimentary units and are composed of slates.
