Abstract :
Permeability, depth and suitable thickness of sediment alluvial are main condition for a successfully artificial recharge survey. In the recent years, the resistivity method has been used to solve more problems of ground water because it is an inexpensive and a useful method. Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) were carried out in the eastern part of Birjand plain for evaluating hydro-geological and structural conditions of subsurface sequences to a depth of around 250 m below ground surface. The resistivity Schlumberger sounding which have a maximum current electrode pacing AB = 1000 m were curried out at 70 positions in 17 profiles, interpretation of these soundings indicates the presence of an unconiined aquifer with a less thickness saturation zone in the eastern part of the plan. The results of geoelectrical survey have shown an alluvial with coarse-grained, good permeability and suitable thickness. Therefore, it is evaluated as a suitable layer for artificial recharge. Moreover, the geoelectrical results have shown that the artificial recharge in eastern part of the project can only affected on the Merk sub-watershed and it has not any result on the western part of the Birjand aquifer. Furthermore, suitable locations for drilling have been determined based on the resistivity data.
