Abstract :

Mozduran Formation is one of the most important reservoirs in NE Iran. This formation is mostly composed of carbonate rocks (calcite and dolomite) which is gradually interfinger and replaced by siliciclastic sediments toward the east. The carbonate sediments may have been deposited in shallow marine carbonate ramp. After sedimentation, the Mozduran Formation has been affected by various diagenetic processes. The effective diagenetic processes on carbonate rocks are cementation, micritization, neomorphism, compaction, dolomitization, dissolution and formation of nodules, veins and fractures. The effective processes on siliciclastic rocks including cementation, compaction, dolomitization, dissolution and hematitization. All of these processes affected the Mozduran Formation in three different diagenetic environments including marine, meteoric and burial. Paragenetic sequences for both carbonates and siliciclastics have been interpreted. We hope that these information can help in a better understanding of diagenetic history of the Mozduran Formation.
