The study of indirect evaluation of uniaxial compressive strength of Sandstone and relationship of the other its mechanical properties

Writers : Moomivand, Hasan
Refference : Proceeding of the first applied geological congress of Iran(volume.2)
Publishing Year : 1386

Abstract :
One of the conventional methods of estimating uniaxial compressive strength of rock is using Schmitt hammer rebound and specific gravity. In addition effects of two parameters of Schmidt hammer rebound and specific gravity on the uniaxial compressive strength, effect of porosity as one of the weakness points of rock on the uniaxial compressive strength of sandstone specimens was also investigated in this research. A new relationship between uniaxial compressive strength and the combined three parameters of Schmidt hammer rebound, specific gravity and porosity of sandstone with a good correlation was achieved. Estimating the uniaxial compressive strength of sandstone using Schmidt hammer rebound, specific gravity and porosity by the obtained relationship has higher accuracy than the former relationships. The exhaustive relationship between physical and mechanical properties of sandstone including uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, tangent modulus of elasticity, secant modulus of elasticity, Poisson‘s ratio, specific gravity and porosity using test results from various references and the results of this research were analyzed and new relationships were proposed.
