Abstract :
Chehel-Kaman Formation (Thanetian) is mainly composed of limestone with calcarouse shale interbeds in the Kopet-Dagh basin. This formation conformably overlies and underlies with Pestehligh and Khangiran Formations. Petrographical studies in north of carbonate rocks from Northwest of Garmab area indicate that these sediments led to identification of 4 lithofacies associations (16 facieses). That have been deposited in open marine, shoal, lagoon and tidal flat belts. Sequence stratigraphy analysis of this formation led to identification of 4 third-order depositional sequences that are bounded by type 2 sequence boundaries. Interpreted sea level curve in the study area is relatively correlated with global curves during Thanetian time. We hope the results of this study with integrated from information of East Kopet-Dagh can be used in Paleogeography reconstruction of this basin during Paleocene time.
