Abstract :
Yakhak prospect area is situated north of Torbat-e-Jam in the boundary between Central Iran and Kopet-Dagh structural zones. Torbat-e-Jam granitoid intrusion of Upper Triassic age is the major sign of magmatism in the area with an NW-SE trend which intrudes the Miankouhi Formation (Lower to Middle Triassic age) consisting of sandstone, siltstone and coaly shale. Heavy mineral and stream sediment geochemical studies in the region have shown minerals such as arsenopyrite, barite, cerussite, galena, goethite, gold (?), hematite, jarosite, pyrite, pyrite-oxide; as well as anomalies of Co, Bi, Cu, As, Pb and Au. During further investigations based on systematic sampling of soils surrounding the plutonic rocks, using statistical distribution parameters and fitting variogram logarithmic data, threshold values and possible? anomalies were determined. The results were drawn in element distribution maps such as Au, As, Pb, Mo and Cu to assess mineralization potential of the area.
