Abstract :
Fordo Iron exploratory district is located in 35 Km south of Qom city. The principle rock units outcropped in this area including sequences of Eocene volcanic that quartz diorite intruded these units.
Iron mineralization in Fordo area occurred in the proximal of intrusion body in Eocene andesite and tuff with N-S strike. Mineralization occurred in low depth (maximum 50 meter), in forms of massive and magnetite bearing. Field and petrography studies have shown that Tuff- Andesites of the area have high Fe background and the intrusion of younger Quartz- Diorite (that include Fe) cause the enrichment of Fe in contact of intrusive body and volcanic, and more in Andesites. Garnet, Epidote and Diopside prove skarn mineralization and the mineralization has close relation with Epidotic, Chloritic and Carbonatic parts in volcanics.
Fe skarn mineralization in Fordo area is unique, because of volcanic host rock in comparison with carbonat host rock and in genesis it is similar to Tikmeh Dash Fe- Mn skarn (Azarbaijan).
