Abstract :

Hired gold-bearing area is located in the northeast border of Lut zone, in the vicinity of Sistan suture zone (Flysch zone of east Iran). A part of plutons of this area aged post Eocene has intruded in Eocene volcanic and pyroclastic units causing hydrothermal alteration associated with gold, copper, lead and zinc mineralization. Different image processing techniques such as band combination, band ratios transformation, and Binary Encoding were used for identification and delineation of the alteration minerals associated with gold mineralization. The Binary Encoding method was found to be the best image processing technique for delineation of the hydrothermally altered minerals. The thin section and XRD data from the samples showed that ASTER data was capable of mapping hydrothermal alteration.
