Abstract :

The Exploratory area is situated 106 km southwest of Birjand and in structural geology divisions of Iran is situated in Zabol - Balouch zone. This area located in geological map of Birjand (1:250000 scale) and Mokhtaran sheet (1:100000 scale). Exploration done in locality scale (1:20000) and obtained results from studies of 47 thin section samples reveled that, rocks of this area consists of: latite, andesite, dacite, agglomerate and Eocene conglomerate. The above mentioned rocks also cut by intrusive micro-dioritic bodies.
Extensive alteration that have occurred been are as follows: kaolinitic, kaolinitic -limonitic and silicic, the silicified zones and main silicic vein are located in the east side of Khoonik mountain. Thickness of main vein is 5 meter; the sulfide mineralization is presented abundant in silicified zones. Silicic veinlets also present in groundmass as dispersed veinlets in host rocks (latites), these silicic veinlets forms stock - work texture.
The results from 52 analysis of rocks for gold and other associated elements shows that the gold is present in alteration and mineralized zones in all parts of explorated area. So that maximum Au have been 2 ppm in all dispersed samples in area, therefore after first sampling and  their results, we decided to design six exploratory trenches in mineralized and alteration zones of Khounik mountain. After digging the trenches, sampling was done and about 92 samples were taken. The maximum grade of gold in these trenches is 78 ppm.
In general, about %13 of samples have grade up to 1 ppm.
