Abstract :
The occurrences of huge reserues of Magnesite deposites have been reported from different parts of Iran specially those of Birjand area with high grade magnesite content. These deposits cannot be directly used as refractories because of some impurities present. To know the mineralogical composition, chemical characters and the mesh of grind which play vital role in finding out suitable flowsheet design, the samples have been subjected to detailed mineralogical and microscopic studies, sieve analysis, liberation studies and chemical analysis. The results obtained have shown that the magnesite with relative grade of 35.24%, quartz is the main impurity with relative grade of 24.77%, and liberation studies have shown that optimum mesh of grind is about 88 microns. Lastly with the investigation carried out it can be predicted that, the flotation methods would be the suitable separation technique for removing the impurities.
