Abstract :
The lower part of Kashafroud Formation in East Kope Dagh and its type section (P01 Gazi) mainly composed of shaly succession with thin sandstone interlayers. These shaly unites is considered as probable source rock of gas rescrvoirs in location. Due to significance of these shaly unites and limitation of usual petrographic methods and field investigation in their study, this articic deals with magnetic susceptibility use in sequence stratigraphy. Present investigation as a comprehensive study is confined to shale dominated unites of this Formation in Pol Gazi section. Field and laboratory studies resulted in recognition of four sedimentary facies in the shaly unite of this succession. On the basis of their sedimentological characteristics, stratigraphy position in total section and comparison of them with introduced facies of well studied environments, this body ascribed to deep part of a elastic basin with abundant turbulent flows. Magnetic susceptibility studies beside other studies enable to recognition sequence boundaries and finally two sedimentary sequences in the studied case. This study shows that use of magnetite susceptibility beside other studies in sequence stratigraphic investigation of deep basin facies obtain value information.
