Paleogeography and paleontology of mass extiniction of Carbonifera and Permian boundary from east and Central Iran

Refference : The 26th Symposium on Geoscieences;Tehran
Publishing Year : 1386

Abstract :
Recovery of Early Permian Spiriferidae (Brachiopod) for the first time similar to those that had been reported by Archbold & Thomas, 1985 is the main point of this research. Redeposit fauna
at the base of Jamal Formation in several parts of Iran confirmed uplifting and epirogenetic movement related to Hercynian affected east and central Iran. Several genera related to the late Carboniferous biota and flora wiped out within or at the beginning of Westphalian stage (carboniferous) to end of Assilian stage (Permian System). Continental sequences such as: aluminosilicates, conglomerate, coal and gypsum are dominant in several sections. After sandy beds with bituminous shale's two carbonate horizons (sea environment) can be traced in Chiruk section. Fauna out of these beds till the last shale are as: Cratispirifer nuraensis sp. Nov, Beecheria sp., Fusispirifer sp. Nov., Neospirifer foordi sp. Nov., Spirelytha platiformis., Latispirifer sp., Spirelytha sp. Nov., Terebratulida sp., Magniplicatina sp., Martinia sp., Callytharrella sp., Punctospirifer sp., Trigonoterta sp., Fenestella sinoperminata., Bivalves, Gastropods, Crinoids, corals and sponges remains.
Wiping out all above-mentioned fauna after the last black shale is related to low stand (regression). Changing environment from land to shallow water (siliceous sand) and then uplifting close to the base of Perniian system in several parts of Iran are related to two reasons for mass extinction close to the end of Carboniferous and beginning of Permian system, Black shale with abundant land plant remains is present above the siliceous sand (40-6Ometers). Flora out of the bed is as: Annularia stellata. Annularia sp., Annullaria radiata., Pecopeteris miltoni., Pecopeteris arborescens and Archaeocalamites radiatus... Increasing the depth of water above this level (transgression) is the result of all Atunian flora disappearance. This regression, transgression model can be used for the Carboniferous/Permian Boundary events in Iran and neighboring countries.
