Abstract :
The Mozduran Formation in Cheshmeh-Gilas area (north-west Mashhad) has been divided into four portions including Lower limestone, Middle shale, Upper limestone, sandy limestone and sandstone. The limestones mainly cosist of skeletal grains and less non-skeletal grains such as intraclast and peloid. This rock units consist of 3 assemblages of fossils including Bentic foraminifera (6 Genus and 5 Species) such as Ammobaculites subcretaceous and Nautiloculina oolitica , Pellagic foraminifera (Calpionnellids) consist of 4 Genus and 5 Species such as Calpionella alpina and Calpionellites darderi and Calcareous green algae (5 Genus and 2 Spesies) such as Salpingoporella annulata and Otternstella anici, that indicate the age of this rocks are younger than type section. On the basis of paleontological studies in Cheshmeh-Gilas area, the Oxfordian-Tithonian age proposed for lower limestone and Berriasian-Valanginian for upper limestone.
