Abstract :
The Upper Jurassic (Kimminidgian-Tithonian) Moaduran Formation in the Kopet -Dagh Basin is mainly composed of carbonate rocks and with amounts of silisiclastic and evaporite sediments. Based on one measured stratigraphic section in north Mashhad (780 m thick), petrographic study of 120 samples and geochemical analysis (isotopic and elemental) of 25 samples, diagenetic history of carbonates rocks of this interval is interpreted. This study shows that these rocks were deposited in ramp type carbonate platform in open-manne,bar and lagoon subenvironments. Since deposition, these sediments werw affected by marine and burial diagenetic processes including compaction, micnitization and cementation.ln addition, variation of oxygen and carbon isotopes values (-3 to -8.4 per mill and zero to 3.6 per mu PDB, respectively), increasing of Fe and Mn values and decreasing of Sr value are also revealed reduction condition during burial diagenesis. Original mineralogy of Mozduran Formation limestone in the study area was mixed aragonite-calcite and deposited at 19.6°C.
