Abstract :
This paper discusses the results of the engineering geological investigations and rock mechanics studies carried out at the proposed Bar Dam site. The Bar Dam has been designed as an earthfill dam with a clay core. This dam will be built on the Bar River, is located about 26 km of northwest of Nishabur city. The dam site mainly founded on volcanic rocks of Neogene age. Geotechnical information obtained from both field and laboratory studies. Field studies include engineering geological mapping, surface discontinuity mapping, drilled boreholes, water pressure tests and sampling for laboratory. Samples obtained from drilling were tested in the laboratory, such as uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), deformation parameters, unit weight and porosity. Rock mass strength and modulus of elasticity are determined using the Hoek_ Brown.
