Abstract :
Sabzevar ophiolitic complex, extending about 200 km east - west, is located north - east of Iran . Its present lithological make up is genetically composed of two general units: Ophiolitic and Post ophiolitic units.
In this study the geochemical nature of the two groups located north of Foroomad village are considered. The ophiolitic part is mainly consisted of dunite, lhrzolite, harzborgite. whrlite, gabbro and pillow basalts whereas the igneous rocks of the post ophiolitic unit are andesite, dacite and rhyolite.
in geochemical diagrams, the ophiolitic rocks plot chiefly in the tholeitic and the post ophiolitic rocks in calk - alkaline areas.
In comparison with N.MORB, the ophiolitzc pillow basalts are enriched in some elements and are probably formed in a back-arc basin.
The geochemical character of the andesites and subvolcanic dacites and rhyolites
of the post ophiolitic unit points to their formation probably by closure and subsequent subducdon of oceanic lithosphere under the adjacent continental crust in Eocene and oligo - miocene respectively.
