Abstract :
The Sahlabad province is located in the Sistan ocean between two micro-continental blocks (eastern Iran): Afghan and Lut. This province was characterized by resedimented deposits, radiolarian ehert, deep and shallow water marine sediments containing benthic foraminifera. Most common microfacies of the shelf environment are coralline and orthophragminid facies. This study focuses on the Lower Eocene larger foraminifera paleoecology such as orthophragminids (Discocyclina, Asterocyclina), small Nummulites (Nummulites gr. deserti), rotaliids such as Lockhartia conditi (NUTTAL), Lockhartia haimei (DAVIES), Cuvillierina vallensis (RUIZ DE GAONA), Alveolinids and miliolids. Microfacies analysis of carbonate rocks were carried out with respect to the distribution of depositional components and biota. Two main faunal assemblages are determined: Miliolina-dominated assemblage (composed Opertorbitolites, Alveolina and miliolids) and orthophragminid-dominated assemblage (characterized by the Discocyclina, Assilina and Asterocyclina).
