Abstract :
The Miocene sediments of the Baghshan Gach area, North West Nayshabur consist of siliciclastic sediments with 582m thickness. It is conformably overlay the Oligocene sediments and are overlain by Devonian sediments (Bahram Formation). Based on the grain size, three lithofacies associations including gravelly (Gmm, Gmg, Gcm, Gp, Gh), sandy (Sm, Sh, Sp, St) and mudy (Fm, Fl) and five architectural elements including SB,SG,CH,GB and FF are identified. Based on the observations such as erosional base, unidirectional sedimentary structures and finning upward cycles, these sediments have been deposited in the fluvial system (braided river with gravelly bed). Petrographic studies and geochemical analysis reveal that these sediments have derived from a region with recycled orogen and tectonic setting of active continental margin. As well as weathering conditions of source region has interpreted hot and humid climate.
