Abstract :
Nouzad-Purang fault zone in east of iran shows two north-south and northwest-southeast trends. Northsouth segment reveals right lateral strike-slip mechanism and northwest-southeast segment has reverse mechanism with right lateral component. Nouzad fault is located in 50 Km east of Birjand and in borderline of the kuh-e Mo inabad parallel with mountain-plaine boundary. The last activity of this fault was happened in 1493 Nouzad earthquake, which generated ~ 30 Km of this fault caused that consequent increasing plastic strain will occur possible tremendous earthquakes. The Nouzad thrust fault links at its eastern end with the N-S right-lateral Purang fault. The northern end of the Purang faults, turns eastward and terminates within the Me inabad mountains. Activity of Purang fault could occur earthquakes on Nouzad fault. Therefore, Purang and Nouzad faults can be introduced as sympatic faults, that activity of Purang fault may cause activity of Nouzad fault. Hence study of earthquake hazard and effects of this fault upon adjacent faults seems to be important.
