Abstract :
The Kopet-Dagh sedimentary basin is located in the northeastern of Iran. The earliest Formation in Cretaceous is Zard Formation in west of Kopet-Dagh that consists of Marble, Sand stone and Sandy limestone. In order to assign Zard Formation, type section (Zard village) and Arkan section have been studied. Thickness of this Formation varies from 240.7m in type section (Zard village) to 258m in Arkan section. In this study some of the index Foraminifera for the first time recognized from Zard Formation: Lagena globbosa, Trochammina sp. , Frondicularia sp. , Feurtillia ceapiansis, Dentallina communis. Moreover, some Brachiopoda for the first time recognized from this Formation: sellithyris plicata, jaisalmeria sp. , psillothyris sp. According to these evidences Zard Formation is belong to Hautrevian-Barremian.
