Refference : The 25th Symposium on Geoscience;Tehran
Publishing Year : 1385

Abstract :

The studied area is located in Binaloud zone ,khorasan e razavi province, west of Mashhad city. Since this zone has similarities to Alborz and Central Iran ,researcher has called this zone a Transitional zone. Our aim for studing this area is petrogenesis investigation of mafic and ultramafic rocks which have been interpreted in different views. For example some researcher such as Alavi,M., 1991 and Stoldin, J.1972 introduced these rocks as an ophiolite sequence while the other such as Sabzehee,M,.1373 believed that these rocks are Komatiite. As we didn't observe any evidence that shows plutonic and mantle origin of these rocks and on the other hand found some volcanic and subvolcanic features such as pillow or brecciated fabrics, we refuse the first idea and accept the second one.
Petrographic evidence such as presence of glass and also geochemical data such as high Mg and low Ti content correlate with criteria published by IUGS (Lebas 2000) and thus we can name this rocks Komatiite .lnvestigation of spider and REE diagrams show depleted mantle origin of mafic and ultramafic magma. Moreover there are some evidences of mafic rocks contamination with crustal rocks.
