Abstract :
The Sanggerd drianage basin is located in central part of Khorasan Province and consists of three subbasins. Structurally, the study area is a part of central Iran and is composed of late Mesozoic and Cenozoic rocks. The river channels are mainly sandy gravelly meander type with a bedload and single channel. Rivers are flowing from south and east toward the central part of basin and from the Sanggerd River. Gomorphological features, such as badland, mudflow, alluvial fan and talus, have been identified and gomorphological map has been prepared. The presence of shale and marl as well as seasonal rainfall causes the strong erosion in the region to from the gomorphological features. Based on sedimentological study 10 differente lithofacies have been identified in the sequences, along the Sanggerd River. Geologicaly, the presence of less resistance sedimenary rocks causes to Produce a lost of sediments that can fill the Sanggerd reservoir quickly. We suggest to build the galaries and small dams in the upstream as well as to grow halophyte plants to reduce erosion and sediment transport in to the reservoir.
