Abstract :
The type section of Sarcheshneh formation is located in the kopet dagh area, about 65 km northeast of Mashhad, Iran ( lat. 36 33' 16" N; long 60 03'07" E). The formation devoloped as a confromble cover of the Tirgan formation and overlain by the sanganeh formation. The thickness of the formation is 310 m in this area. The base of the formation is formad by 180 m marls and limy marls and others by shales. In this study , marls and limy marls section and some shsles of the formation were investigated. A total of 20 samples were collected from the area and studied by optical microscop and Scanning electron microscop (SEM). For the first time, 12 families, 24 genera, 43 species and 1 subspecies have been recognized. According to this investigation, early Aptian to Late Albian ages were proposed for this section and four bioznes were introduced. These bioznes are in good agreements with those pressnted earlier by Sissingh ( 1977 ), Deres ( 1980 ), and Bown and Rutledge ( 1999 ).
