Abstract :
The Kopet Dagh sedimentary basin is situated in the north east of Iran and the south of Turkmenistan.
Takal Kuh is located in north-west of Ashkhaneh city. Two sections have been measured in this area and Calcareous nannofossils of the Sarcheshmeh and Sanganeh have been investigated in this research. A total of 87 samples have been studied from the 1900 m thick marly limestones, shale and siltstones of the Sarcheshmeh and Sanganeh formations with respect to their content in calcareous nannofossils.
The following genera and species including Braadrusphaera sp., Calciosolenia fossils, Caninolithus magharensis, Certarhabdus conicus, Cyclogelosphaera margerelli, Hayesites irregulanis, Lithraphidites bollii, L. carmolernsis, Lotharingius contactus, L. sigillatus, Microantholithus obtusus, Rhagodiscus asper, Triscutum bearrninstrensis, Watznaueria barnesae, W. biporta, W. fossacincta, W. Britannica, and Zeagrhabdotus erectus are recorded in the Sarcheshmeh Formation. The following genera and species are reported in the Sanganeh Formation for first time; Biscutum constatus, Broinsonia sp., Discorhabdus rotatorius, Discorhabdus sp., Lithraphidites sp., Lothargingius constatus, Nannoconus circulanis, N. sp.l Nannoconus sp.2, Rhagodiscus splendens, Tranolithus sp. and Watznaueria manivitiae.
The identified assemblage fauna are correlated with calcareous nannofossils biozonation such as Thierstein (1973), Sissingh (1977) and Roth (1978). Palaeoecology of representative species of index genera such as Biscutum, Hayesites, Nannoconus, Rhagodiscus, Watznaueria and Zeagrhabdotus has been discussed.
