Abstract :
Seismic hazard analysis assesses selected ground motion parameters at a site due to earthquakes from potential seismic sources. Seismic hazard assessment classified into empirical/statistical, probabilistic and deterministic. In this study deterministic method the faults or other lineaments or recent times will assume as probable seismic sources for earthquake hazard assessment.
Dimensions of these lineaments and their association with past earthquake occurrences will help to evaluate the expected ground motion in selected site. The region considered in study is The Kopeh Dagh fold belt as a part of Alpine- Himalayan mountain belt in western Asia constitutes the northeastern border of the Iranian plateau and lies on the southwestern margin of Turan continental crust. The Kopeh Dagh and Allah Dagh mountain ranges together from a mountain belt about 600 km long and up to 200 km wide. The seismicity over the last 100 years is studied, and the four strongest earthquakes in Northeast Iran, i.e. 1871/2, 1893 and 1895 Quchan and 1929 Baghan- Germab are described.
In this study, Deterministic seismic hazard assessment in Kopeh Dagh province and selected ground motion parameters at a site (Bojnurd) due to earthquakes from potential seismic sources.
