Abstract :

Sheikh-Ali copper deposit located 300 km south of Kerman is one of the oldest mines in Iran operating since ancient time and is considered as an important archeological site. Based on previous ore type genetic studies it is considered to be of Cyprus type massive sulfide ore deposit. The available exploratory data sets include, the apparent resistivity, induced polarization, magnetic geophysical data, litho-geochemical data and eight drill hole log data. In order to achieve the objectives drawn earlier the three geophysical data sets were inverted optimally to recover three dimensional distribution of petrophysical properties of subsurface mineralization including true resistivity, chargeability and susceptibility. In addition the geochemical samples were analyzed for major oxides, minor and trace elements which through using statistical multivariate analysis showed enrichment of Cu, Zn, S, MgO, MnO and Fe2O3 and deflection of Na2O and K2O at the main mine trench. Also the strong correlation between geochemical and geophysical data observed over the mineralized zone compared with the previously drilled boreholes indicates that the suggested boreholes were not precisely selected and consequently leading to the false conclusions and interpretations. Finally based on geophysical inverted models and topographic relief of the studied area and in order to check the presence of probable subsurface mineralization, drilling three boreholes has been suggested.
