Abstract :
The Shurijeh Formation (Lower Cretaceous) crops out in Sefid–Sang area, NE Fariman. This formation is composed of conglomerate, sandstone and mudstone with calcrete nodules and horizons. Formation of calcrete in vadose and pheriatic zones is tacken placed either during pedogenesis and/or evaporation of groundwater or both. Calcretes of the Shurijeh Formation are present in two forms, non continuous horizons and sandy nodules with abundant calcite cement. Development of calcrete horizons within the Shurijeh Formation may haven take placed by evaporation and calcite precipitation processes when watertable rised. Mature and composite paleosols in Shurijeh Formation are formed away from active channel and in stable floodplain due to decreases in sedimentation rate. Calcite nodules and compound calcrete are formed in the margins of active channels where sedimentation rate was more than pedogenic rate. From sequence stratigraphy point of view, identification of this horizons can be used as sequence boundary.
