Beneficiation Studies of Magnesite from South of Khorasan (Birjand - Spiky)

Writers : Zavari,Majid;Rezaei,Bahram
Refference : Mineral Potentials and Mining Capabilities in the East of Iran
Publishing Year : 1378

Abstract :
The Spiky Magnesite deposite with an estimated reserves of 145,000 tones and an average grade of MgO 35% is situated of Magnesite ores in Western South of Birjand city in lran. These deposits can not be directly used as refractories and the like because of high percentage of Quartz (Si02 18.4%) present in the form of crystalline and cryptocrystalline from one side and presence of Dolomite and others from other sides. Quarts, Dolomite and some Iron Oxide are the impurities present in the order of aboundances and liberation studies shown that optimume mesh of grind is below 150 Microns.
The object of this work is decreasing the content of Si02 in ore sample by Gravity Separation, Media Separation and Flotation. Based on studies, using of Saking table and Jig Machine for beneficiation of this Magnesite, in one stage to produce final product isn't recommonded. Prebeneficiation on 4 and 6 mesh fractions in Heavy Media with 2.92 (gr/cm3) S.G. in one stage is fesible. In this process, the Si02 content reduce into 4% . The results Have obtained, clearly shows that it is possible to reduce the percentage of Si02 to the tune of 3.95% and at the same time to increase the MgO content of the ore from 35% to that of 40.9! with recovery of MgO in concentrate about 56% by optimization of the parameters while carrying.
