Abstract :

Starkhi catchment is one of the tributaries of Atrak River watershed in south of Shirvan. This catchment is located between Kopet - Dagh and north of Binalood structural zones. It has elongated shape with Surface area about 53 Km2 and minor turbulence of human activities in the main channel. Starkhi catchment is surrounded by Lar, Shurijeh and Tirgan Formations. Sedimentological studies show Starkhi river is a gravel bedload river and grain size changes toward downstream is not exponentional. It has two discontinuities and three isolated sedimentary links. These discontinuities are resulted from laterally input of coarse grain sediments from tributaries and changes of bed slope (because of lithology). The isolated sedimentary links due to selective transport and abrasion. Selective transport generally is resulted from hydraulic forces and geomorphological factors (e.g., decrease in bed slope in longitudinal profile). We hope these studies can be help recognized of erosional and sedimentology patterns of catchment and can be useful for best watershed management and soil and water preservation.
