Abstract :

One of the most important parameters in study of skarns is their mineral zonations. Determination of minerals amount is one of the first purposes in petrology and economic geology studies. For skarns zonation, it is necessary to know the amount of minerals in each zone. Recently various methods are developed for determination of minerals amount in rock bodies, but a rapid, accurate and economic method for distinguishing 3D mineral distribution in the rocks is not understood yet. This study
introduces such a method based on image sequence modeling in the rocks. In our studied area (Hasan- Abad of Taft) garnet is one of the most important mineral in skarns and has high frequency and in addition is present in various types in different places. So garnet was selected for this study. Very thin layer of rock (300 microns) is picked up and a digital photo is prepared in any stage. Prepared images were analyzed with MATLAB software and green channel was extracted. Each value of this channel with its x,y and z coordination stored in a new matrix. Modeling this matrix in RockWorks software and filtering based on mean – standard deviation of modeled data, results to garnets network and amount distinguishing in rocks. Studied zone is garnet- wollastonite based on resulting 32% of garnet. This method is also useful in different cases such as: determine the rock type, field zonation, calculate the amount of mine and waste material, fluid inclusion studies and distinguish the type and volume of rock porosity.
