The idea of the establishment of the museum, formed after constructing the new management building belonged to the Mashhad center, while cooking for the following aims:

  • Know and make knowledge of geological attractions of the Iran.
  • Provide a new scientific center in order to direct  knowledge of Geoscience.
  •  Public education for the ones who are interested in the Earth and Geosciences.
  •  Provide a suitable place for study and research (for specialists and geological Students).
  • Attracting the public and tourists and science-lovers/ knowledge – seekers in order to visit the various geological phenomena like rocks, fossils and all the other events related to Earth as the clear signs of Creation.

The geoscience museum is built at 250 m2 substructure area, consist the following parts:

 

1. The main hall: The visitors may find different types of rocks, minerals, fossils, various textures beautifully placed in the window shelves as well as some specimen from various mines from inside the country and across the world.

2. A repository for storing the samples: this storage includes metal – shelves holding more than 1000 Samples in it.

3. Amphitheatre: used for showing geology –related films

4. A specific site/place for preparing the samples.

5. An office for the one who is in charge at the museum at place.

6. A place for selling samples (the samples which has the characteristics of being unique)

 

Note:

Around 350 non-silicate / 250 Silicate, more than 100 rock specimen,14 Samples of natural elements, more than 500 fossils and, 60 gemstones and semi-precious rock samples have been collected over two years. Also, in this museum there are samples which have been dedicated, carrying the name of donors and nameless ones which have been bought or exchanged, as well. Further, the museum is ready to be temporally exhibiting samples under the name at the donor.

The geoscience museum has been opened on April 13th 2006 and ready to provide the visitors with services in its domain at knowledge.
