Abstract :
This paper deals with the Lower to Middle Devonian conodonts from Zarand area northern Kerman. About one hundred samples have been collected for systematic studies, as well as age determination. The samples have been prepared and were analyzed in the conodont laboratory of the Geological Survey of Iran. According to kthostratigraphic studies three litho- biozones have been distinguished:
zone I: Consists of mainly gypsum or gypsiferous shale, reddish in colour.
zone II: Consists of light- grey darkish grey limestone, and yielded the following conodonts:
Pandorinellina exigus exigua Philip, 1966. Pandorinellina axigus philipi Klapper, 1969. Ozarkothna conftuens Bran son and MehI, 1933. Ozarkodina remscheidensis remscheidensis Ziegler, 1960. Ozarkodina remscheidensis Walliser, 1964. Pandorinellna steinhornensis Zeigler, 1956.
Age: Early Devonian
zone Ill: Consists of red sandstone with intercalation of calcareous sandstone and dolomite.
This zone has yeilded the following conodonts:
Bipennatus bipennatus Bischoff and Ziegler, 1957. Bipennatus bipennatus bipennatus Bischoff and Ziegler, 1957. Bipennatus sp.
Icriodus expansus Branson and MehI, 1938. Icnbdus brevis Stauffer, 1940. Icriodus struvei Weddige, 1977, Icriodus brevis spicatus Youngquist and Peterson, 1947.
Age: Middle Devonian.
