Abstract :
Results obtained from a study carried and on lake Urumieh, based on satellite data interpretation and its subsequent analysis through a multi-sensor, multitemporal and multiformat approach, not only modified the figures present for areal extent of the lake but also resulted in recognition of two different near-shore currents, which are responsible for sedimentation of suspended loads carried by terminating river in the Lake.
The most important conclusion derived from this investigation is that,the highway constructed almost in the middle portion of Lake Urumieh, affected on the pattern of sedimentation process results obtained from this study clearly show the possibility of partitioning of this important inland waterbody of the country in he near future.
A follow on detail study of effects of the highway on sedimentation process, using repetative satellite data of the lake and re-evaluation of highway,s project plan to prevent the occurance of such a disaster is recommended on the finding described by this report.
