Kimmerian event in Iran

Writers : M.Alavi - Naini
Refference : Geosciences Scientific Quarterly Journal,No.:5,P.:38

Abstract :
Early Kimrnerian event has left significant geological and paleogeographical effects in different poarts of Iran.
This in particularlytrue with regards to distribution of Triassic and Liassic sediments. The effects of this event could be ween more extensively in north, northeast and Sanandaj- Sirjan area than elsewhere in Iran. With the exception of Kerman, the Middle Kimmerian event had occrred in Bajocian in north and east Iran. The effects of which were more profound than Carnian time. The Middle Kimmerian event was first named as Lutian Orogeny by Seyed - Emami and,Alavi - Naini (1990), which occurs at the mutual boundary of regressive, lower Bajocian fadies and the transgressive, upper Bajocian facies, Investigations in different part of Iran, has shown that, during late Kimmerian orogenic movements extensive denudation prevailed throughout the country and as a result of which the Lower cretaceous rocks overlies with angular unconformity older formations.
