Abstract :
Landslide is a natural hazard which causes sever damages every year in mountainous area of the country including Alborz and Zagros. Many factors involve in the process of landslide occurance. These factors may be named as lithology, climatology, hydrology, hydrogeology, tectonics and seismology. However, the human being has a main role in the process of landslide occurance by constructing roads and other facilities in mountainous area. The interaction of these factors may or may not end in a landslide of various dimensions.
In this paper the factors affecting the instability of slopes in Mazandaran Province are evaluated and eight of them which could be considerd in the working scale of this research, have been chosen. These factors are slop, angle, lithology, fault, road, river, humidity or average rainfall, rainfall intensity and earthquake.
The effect of each factor on the instability of slopes have been classified according to the importance of that factor with respect to the slope instability. A section of the Mazandaran province was considered to examine the proposed method by checking if this method can predict the hazardous zones of landslides. The method then was calibrated according to the results of this examination.
The calibrated method then was used for the whole Mazandaran Province and landslide microzonation maps have been produced in
four sheets of 1:250000 scale.
The method then was generalized and was proposed as a new method to be used by researchers, geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists for landslide hazard microzonation.
