Abstract :
The region of stratigraphical studies is located west and south-West of Yazd.
Two stratigraphic sections were verified in the above- mentioned region which includes:
1.The section of Moein-abad.
2.The section of Tehr mountain.
The platform carbonate sediments(Taft limestone; Barremian to Albian) and the red continental sediments (Sangestan Formation:Late Jurassic to Neocomian) overlie the Shir-Kuh granitoid or Jurassic shales with an unconformity.
The erosion of Shir-Kuh granitoid and the other pre-existing rocks along with the reconstitution of Sangestan conglomerates and Sandstones (to 1200m.thickness)occurred probably due to epeirogenic Phase of Late Kimmenian. This phase includes the transgressive carbonate facies of Neocomian in the study area.
In author,s opinion the Sangestan Formation is equivalent to the Shurijeh Formation(Kopet-Dagh), gypsum and melaphyres of central Alborz, Bidou Formation of the Kerman basin and Garadu Red Beds of the eastern part of central Iran.
