Explanations about Morad, Rizu and Desu Series, north of Yazdan Abad Area

Abstract :

Late Precambrian- Early Cambian rocks called as Morad, Rizu and Desu Series, were examined during field season (1992), for preparation of Davaran 1:100,000 geological sheet. It was concluded that extension of Morad Series in the area north of Yazdan Abad was relatively smaller than was suggested by the previous workers. Late Precambrian age was emphasized more for the Morad Series, due to its disconformable stratigrphic position, underlying Aizu and Desu Series. Disconformity between top dolomite of Rizu Series with respect to its older parts corresponds with Baikalian (Pan African?) orogenic event. Usually in this area, upper division of Desu Series is overlain by different thicknesses of dolomite, equivalent and similar to upper parts of Soltanieh Formation, which is followed by Barut, Zaigun and Lalun Formations. Conformable but lithologically sharp contact between Desu Series and the top dolomite of Rizu Series is distinguished in the area north of Yazdan Abad. Gypsum bearing Desu Series, besides its basal and top dolomites is recognized as equivalent and lateral facies variations of Soltanieh Formation.
