Abstract :

The region under consideration is part of the Alpine System which is situated between Darakeh Valley in the east and Kan Valley in thewest, northern Tehran. It is totally composed of Eocene Karaj Formation. The mechanism of thrust- faulting dipping towards the north in the southern portion of the Central Alborz, whereas, the thrusting of north Tehran is left- lateral movement (Tchalenko, 1975 and Trifonov, 1996). In addition, the faultings with north- south trend to north- northwest to southeast, have right- lateral movement. In this connection, a model is suggested for generation of these faults.
The Study of the fractures and faults trend, particularly thrust, reverse- faults, dykes, joints and above all slickensides on fault planes,show that, two totally different attitudes of compressional trends and almost perpendicular to each other are present.
The first generation of compression is trending northwest- southeast, while the second generation of compression possesses northeast to southwest trend.
