Abstract :
During Paleontological and stratigraphical studies in Central Iran, several numbers of ichnofossils have been collected from the Morad and Rizu Series of Ab-e-Morad (NW Kerman), and Rud Shur- Gode gel.The result of the study on fossils are:
Morad Series: Rusophycus, Plano!ites, Phycodes circinatum Monomorphichnus, Bifasciculus cf.radiatu! Incisifex, Pe!ecypodichnus?, Cruziana, and Paleophycus.
Rizu Series: Ansophycus, Planolites, Ichnoep. (arthropodtreck), Didymaulichnus, Monomorphichnus
lifleatus.
In addition, several microtoesils are Identified from the Morad Series, those are: chitinozoan scolecodonts, Cymatiogalea sp., Protoleiosphaeridlum ap., Leiosphaeridia sp., Micrhystridium dissimilare. The above mentioned ichnofossils (except for Planolites, which is also recorded from Precambrian) were reported fro n the Paleozoic rocks. The Bifasciculus and Phycodes circinatum appear from the Ordovician when the Incisilex so far is recorded in the Lower Devonian.
Rusophylus, which is present in both Series, is interpueted as trilobite traces. Moreover, such a faunas en stratigraphically restricted only in the Paleozoic deposits.
Considering the transitional changes of Morad Series to the Rizu Series in the Zarand area and accordinc
to the presence of the above mentioned ichnofossils and also microfossils in the Morad Series, the ordovician age is suggested for these Series.
The Silurian- Devonian ages are given to the Rizu Series, based on it's stratigraphic position and also fossil
the presence of the previously mentioned fossils.
